This beginners fitness pyramid will help you reach your goals. Trust. In this post, I will break down the pyramid and explain how each block is crucial to your fitness journey. Think of the pyramid as stepping stones. Each step will get you closer to what your heart, mind, and body desires.

If you are reading this, I know you are serious about your health. I’m glad you are here! It takes courage to begin something new. The beginner’s fitness journey is special. And if you have the right tools and the right guidance, you will be successful.

The fitness pyramid for beginners includes finding your why, building a community, goal setting and visualization, confidence and consistency, to reach your chosen fitness lifestyle.

Now that we have covered the surface, get a pen and some paper and take notes!

Your why- the source of motivation

Finding “your why”  is the most important step for beginners and it is the first step in this pyramid. Your “why” will root you, keep you motivated, and keep you committed to your goals. Before you come up with your why, determine whether it is a short-term or long-term reason.

  • Short-term why- To lose weight before the reunion.
  • Long-term why To reverse my prediabetes status.

Your why may change as you move further in your journey. Developing your why will secure your motivation helping you get through tough days. During your fitness journey, you are going to feel unmotivated and discouraged. These feelings are completely normal.

The key is when those negative feelings do pop up, your why will keep you focused and grounded. The key to developing your why is making sure that your reason goes beyond the superficial. It is okay that you have a short-term why, but it is better to have a long-term why. Remember, the deeper your why the more likely you will stay motivated.

Resources – building community.

On your journey you will need support. Without it you will not be successful. We are humans and we are hardwired to connect with people.

Connecting with the right community will ensure your needs are met. With the right community you will blossom and connect with others that want to see you thrive. Your community provides you with resources and keeps you accountable.

Once you surround yourself with the right community, your confidence will grow.

When you have bad days your community will lift you up.

To find community resources, research fitness centers in your area.  Reach out to them to find what they specialize in. Community resources include workout groups, online resources/blog, and group training.

If you need individualized support try hiring a personal trainer or dietician. There are fitness apps and gadgets that also promote community that are inexpensive.

Goal setting and visualization.

I  believe that setting goals can happen at any stage of your journey. In this pyramid, I have goal setting after community resources. Like I said before, support is crucial in the beginners journey.

Your support will help you better achieve your goals. Make sure you define and specify your goals.

Goal setting is only part of the process. The real secret to goal setting is visualization and manifesting. If you think you can, you can. If you can see that you can do it, you will!

Get hooked on visualizing what you want from your journey. What would a fitter you look like? What type of schedule would you adhere to? Imagine how good you will feel in 90 days or by next week! This is also the point where you should begin to make affirmations to go along with your goals

My favorite affirmations are:

I can and I will

I am at peace with my body

I’m committed to bettering myself and my health

My favorite affirmations are:

I can and I will.

I’m at peace with my body.

I’m committed to bettering myself and my health.

If you say your affirmations everyday, your negative thoughts will decrease. When negative thoughts come up, replace them with positive ones.

Confidence & Consistency- putting a plan into action and following the script.

The next phase of the beginners fitness pyramid is confidence and consistency. Throughout this pyramid we have been building confidence and breaking down mental obstacles.

Without confidence in yourself and in your community, you won’t be able to be consistent. If you haven’t built a community or found a resource, go back to the second phase of the pyramid.

You need confidence to begin and to continue. Your community is part of the confidence building. When you go to the gym and complete your first tough workout your emotions will surge.

As you go on in your journey, you will associate that feeling with being able. Your new found confidence will help you crush more intense workouts!

That is why it is important to build your community and make connections with the right people. Once you have developed confidence it will be easier to be consistent. Consistent exercise and activity will yield results.

If you need help being consistent refer to your community! Find an accountability  partner or a new way to stick with it.

Lifestyle- finding “It”

The last piece to this pyramid is lifestyle. I recently had someone ask me, “why do people fail to be consistent when it comes to exercise?” Well first things first, I don’t think people are failing.  I think people forget that fitness is a lifestyle not a hobby!

For beginners, making fitness your lifestyle is the ultimate goal. I know we often think the ultimate goal is to get that dream body or lose weight.

Don’t get me wrong, losing weight is a great goal to have and it is something to celebrate. But if your goal is just weight loss, it will not last.

For me, fitness has always been a lifestyle, but my lifestyle has shaped dramatically and it’s forever changing and shifting.

For my fitness lifestyle, I chose to be a group fitness instructor. Others may choose to be a professional or a recreational runner. There are many fitness lifestyles that are waiting for someone like you! Be brave and connect.

My hope for everyone is to find joy in fitness and being healthy. During your journey, you may have found passion for food, fitness, or sport. That passion will help you carve out a lifestyle. And you need a lifestyle to maintain whatever results you have achieved.
